I have seen a few posts generally asking the question, but I want to weigh in on it as well. The United States is still equipped with a system called due process, but Penn State has already pulled the trigger on many people (most notably Joe Paterno) before any legal judgment has been handed to Sandusky.
Not that I think it will happen, but what if Sandusky is cleared of all charges? Will that not completely invalidate all the action taken by the University?

The government does due process, not Penn State. Penn State has been harmed by JP’s failure to act accordingly, so they had to let him go. It’s that simple. Tragic, but simple.

I definitely see that side of it, it just raises the point that if he is not convicted of doing anything wrong, it basically means he didn’t do anything wrong, so what was there for JP to know about and report? I still think it’s overkill … it would have made more sense for there to have been an indefinite suspension until all the facts were hammered down. I think PSU did more damage to themselves by reacting so overzealously.
